A visitor to one of my exhibitions described the paintings as Norman Rockwell gone bad. Rockwell excelled at distilling the fantasy of mainstream American experience, one that was folksy and familiar. I like to use this kind of familiarity, too, although the imagery of mainstream culture that winds through my work can seem menacing. Recent works have begun to include nude figures that portray mythology and metamorphosis. The turbulence of our time seems well served by mythology, whether its evoked in the American dream turned upside down, or through metamorphosis.
